TRIP TO KAMIENNA MOUNTAIN AND JANOWITZ MOUNTAINS

On October 6, 2023 early in the morning a group of 50 listeners, taking advantage of the autumn sunshine, went on a one-day trip to Kamienna Góra and the Janowickie Mountains. The trip was financed by funds from the Marshal’s Office in Wroclaw. The first destination of our trip was Kamienna Gora and a visit to the “ARADO “project – Hitler’s lost laboratory whose route is one of the most modern underground tourist routes in Poland. The underground hides exhibits that are unique in Europe – parts of a V-1 missile and a V-2 rocket, a German radar and a German enigma. Our interest was a weapon of mass destruction called a “roaring cow.” Its action was not primarily to kill as many of the population as possible, but to create confusion among them with the loud noises it made.

The tour of the project ended with the guide telling the sad story of camp prisoners who were forced to work hard to hollow out the underground. Due to the fact that they received very small rations and the work lasted several hours at a time, they did not survive in such conditions for more than a few weeks.

The next point of our trip was a drive to Miedzianka and a walk through Miedzianka, a charmingly located village in the valley of the Beaver River. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages. For centuries it was a thriving mining town. However, in the second half of the 20th century the village almost completely disappeared from the face of the earth. Thanks to its residents, it is currently experiencing a revival. Being in Miedzianka, it is impossible not to stop at the Miedzianka Brewery. The site was created so that you can get a sneak peek at how the brewing process takes place, while enjoying the surrounding views of the edge of the Janowickie Ore Mountains. Since the visit to the brewery could not miss a beer tasting and a delicious regional dish “Silesian Heaven”-prepared with ingredients supplied by local producers. Our tours are never monothematic so

After a short rest, we set off on our way. The next point was a visit to the Ore Mountains Landscape Park, where there are the Colorful Lakes-a complex of four reservoirs that were created on the site of former pyrite mines operating since the 18th century. The water in them has colored naturally, creating rare multicolored lakes. We managed to reach two. In the evening, tired but happy, we returned to Boleslawiec.
